Emerging Markets: Is India the next growth market for EMS?
The EMS business in India has steadily been on the rise for the past 5 years, topping over US$ 2 Billion in 2009. The electronics industry in India has a potential to reach around the US $ 40 Billion mark in 2010, supported by the largest segment being consumer electronics.
An educated workforce focused on engineering and design, labor costs on the rise in China, outsourcing by domestic and global OEM’s and strong and growing internal consumption for consumer electronics are some key factors driving the up-tick in the Indian EMS business. Several top tier EMS companies have all ready set-up shop and others are eyeing this market as a lucrative opportunity.
Tekmart International Inc. is a leading global supplier of quality secondhand SMT/Thru-Hole & Test equipment to the electronic manufacturing industry worldwide. “We have always been a global company since our inception and participated in emerging economies well ahead of the curve” says Nigel Thomas, VP Business Development for Tekmart International Inc. "
Case in point , we set-up our Indian operations 3 years ago and 2009 has been a pinnacle year for our Indian business; 2010 will see even more of a substantial increase in revenue and customer base; what might be surprising to most is apart from top tier OEMs and EMS companies, the SMB customer in India has an active role to play in the growth of the Indian EMS business".
